A Work From Home Routine That Actually Feels Good
There’s a version of working from home that looks really good on paper.
Slow mornings. Coffee in hand. A calm, productive day.
And then there’s the version most of us actually experience.
Checking your phone too early. Sitting down to work without any real structure. Feeling behind before the day has even started.
I’ve lived in both.
And what I’ve learned is this… a good routine isn’t about doing more. It’s about creating a rhythm that supports you.
The Problem With Most Routines
They’re either too rigid or too relaxed.
If your routines are too structured, they feel impossible to keep up with.
Too loose, and the day slips away before you’ve really started.
What actually works sits somewhere in between.
What I Focus On Instead
I don’t follow a perfect routine. I follow a few anchors that shape my day.
Simple things that bring me back to a sense of direction.
1. A Slower Start (Without Guilt)
Not rushing into work immediately. Giving myself a little space before the day begins ( even if it’s just 20 minutes ) to read, to enjoy a hot coffee, to be present with my kids, to walk my dog. Whatever my soul needs to jump into my day.
2. A Clear Starting Point
Knowing what I’m sitting down to do. Not opening my laptop and figuring it out in the moment. I have goals set out for the day and blocks of time reserved for specific tasks each week. All focused but flexible (because, life. Am i right?!)
3. Visual Calm
This matters more than people think.
A clear space. Soft or bright light. Decor I actually enjoy looking at.
It really changes how the day feels.
4. A Defined “Enough”
Not working endlessly.
Having a point where the day feels complete — even if everything isn’t done.
Why This Works
Because it’s realistic.
It doesn’t rely on motivation.
It creates a day that feels good to be in — not just productive from the outside.
A Final Thought
Your routine doesn’t need to look impressive.
It just needs to support the way you actually live and work.
